Berberine is an alkaloid found in goldenseal, barberry and Indian barberry, and it has been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic practice for something like three thousand years. In the last decade it has become one of the most heavily researched plant compounds in the world.
Coyne's version is built around 500mg of berberine HCl per capsule, drawn from Berberis aristata root. Alongside it sits Origine 8®, a bioenhanced green tea extract that carries its own polyphenols and catechins, and 25 micrograms of chromium, an essential trace mineral.
Berberine works on AMPK, the enzyme researchers nickname the metabolic master switch, which is the reason the ingredient attracts the attention it does.
