DESCRIPTION

Cold creamed honey from the Bay of Islands, made the slow way.

Floral Harvest is a late season blend from the apiaries around Paihia, full bodied and floral with a smooth finish.

All of Honey Paihia's honey is cold creamed, which means it is stirred gently over days rather than heated. Heating makes honey easy to pour and easy to pack, and it costs the honey its texture. Stirring keeps it thick, smooth and spoonable, and keeps it that way in the cupboard.

Their hives sit around Paihia and the Far North, and the honey is minimally processed on the way from the hive to the jar.

250g jar. Good on toast, better stirred through porridge, and the easiest way to sweeten a cup of tea.

100% New Zealand honey. Nothing added.

Instructions

Spread it, spoon it, or stir it into tea or warm milk once the cup has cooled a little, since boiling water is hard on raw honey. Use a clean dry spoon each time so the jar keeps well.

Disclosure

Do not give honey to infants under 12 months of age, cooked or raw, because of the risk of infant botulism. Honey is a sugar, so count it the way you would count any other, and take care if you have diabetes or have been advised to limit sugar. Not suitable for anyone with a known allergy to honey, pollen or bee products. Store below 25 degrees C, out of direct sunlight, and put the lid back on firmly. Honey naturally crystallises over time, which is a sign it has not been over-processed, and a jar stood in warm water will loosen again.

About Honey Paihia

Honey Paihia keep their hives around Paihia and the subtropical Far North, and bottle what those hives bring in without blending it with honey from anywhere else. That is what single origin means on a honey label, and most jars on a supermarket shelf cannot claim it.

Their mānuka is graded by methylglyoxal, the compound mānuka is measured on: 263+ MGO is 10+ on the older NPA scale, 500+ is 15+, and 800+ is close to 20+. Every batch is tested by infrared spectroscopy.

All of it is cold creamed, stirred slowly over days instead of heated, which is why it spoons and spreads rather than runs.
