Fennel is sweet and aniseedy without the heaviness of aniseed itself, a green liquorice smell that reads as clean rather than confectionery.
Steam distilled from the seeds of Foeniculum vulgare grown in India, it is a middle note that holds its own in a blend. It appears in the Cellulite Toning and Sports Massage oils, and on its own it is a good counterweight to sharper citrus.
Fennel carries real restrictions. Dolphin Clinic list it as unsuitable during pregnancy and for anyone with epilepsy, and it needs diluting well.
