A tongue stabilising device for problem snoring. The AVEOtsd is a small piece of soft medical grade silicone with a bulb on the end. You squeeze the bulb, put the tip of your tongue into it and let go, and gentle suction holds the tongue forward through the night so it cannot fall back and narrow the airway. A narrowed airway is what makes the soft tissue at the back of the throat vibrate, and that vibration is the sound of snoring.

It does not touch the teeth. There is no splint, no dental mould and no fitting appointment, which is the practical difference between this and a mandibular advancement device. There is nothing to adjust either, so it is ready to use out of the box.

Designed and manufactured in New Zealand by Innovative Health Technologies, who have been making it since 1999. It came out of several years of research into snoring by Dr Chris Robertson, a New Zealand specialist in dental sleep medicine. The current version is 64 percent thinner than the original design, which makes it easier to tolerate.

This is the Medium, which is the size that fits more than 90 percent of people. It comes with a hinged storage case. Rinse it after use and keep it dry in the case between nights. One device, used nightly, is good for several months.

If you have been told that you stop breathing or gasp in your sleep, or you have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea, talk to your doctor before using it.
