There is no mistaking camphor. It is cold, sharp and medicinal in the way a menthol rub is medicinal, and it clears a stuffy room faster than almost anything else on the shelf.
Steam distilled from the wood of Cinnamomum camphora in China, white camphor is the fraction used in aromatherapy. It is a top note and a strong one, which is why it turns up in small quantities in decongestant blends rather than on its own.
Two or three drops in a vaporiser is enough. Dilute it well for anything topical.

Massage or body oil: 5 drops per 10ml of carrier oil such as sweet almond or jojoba.
Bath: 4-6 drops stirred through a little carrier oil or milk once the water has run.
