Solgar® Taurine 500 mg contains the amino acid taurine.
Taurine is a sulfur-containing compound and one of the most abundant amino acids present in the human body. Amino acids are found in protein and support several functions within the body. They are classified as “essential” or “non-essential”. Essential amino acids cannot be made within the body and must be supplied by the diet and non- essential amino acids can be made within the body.
Amino acids support normal production and function of hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters, antibodies, and nutrient carriers. Taurine is an essential amino acid as it cannot be made by the body and must be supplied in the diet. Foods that increase amino acid intake are protein foods like meat, beans, cheese, and eggs. Taurine is found in animal protein, and not in vegetable protein.
