Soy wax has a memory. If the first burn does not reach the edge of the jar, the candle will keep burning down a narrow channel and tunnel, leaving a ring of unused wax. Let the first burn run two to three hours, until the melted pool reaches the glass, and the rest of the candle will behave.

Yes, to about 5mm before each burn. An untrimmed wick gives a tall flickering flame, soot on the glass and a faster burn. Scissors are fine; you do not need a special trimmer.

Soy wax is made from soybean oil, so it is plant based, renewable and biodegradable. It also melts at a lower temperature, which means it burns more slowly and holds fragrance well at a gentler heat. Paraffin is a petroleum by-product.

These are sized for an ordinary living room, bedroom or bathroom. In a large open-plan space you will notice it near the candle rather than throughout, which is where people usually light two.

Vegan and cruelty free. The wax is soy, the wick is lead free cotton, and the fragrance oils are plant based. There are no dyes, preservatives or phthalates in the formula.

Once roughly 10mm of wax is left in the base. Burning past that point puts too much heat into the glass.

Plenty of people do. Once the candle is finished, soften the last of the wax in warm water, lift it out, wash the jar and it works as a brush pot, a small planter or a holder for odds and ends.
